Thailand Expands Digital Immigration Services with New THIM App

THIM

A new digital immigration tool is now part of the Thailand travel landscape. The Thai Immigration Application, or THIM, is designed to make immigration-related services and information easier for international travelers to access in one place.

Its launch comes as Thailand continues to update its immigration system. One of the most significant recent changes affects visa-exempt travelers, meaning visitors from eligible countries who can enter Thailand without applying for a tourist visa beforehand. The previous 60-day visa-free stay has now been reduced to 30 days for many nationalities, effective September 15, 2026.

Against that backdrop, THIM is part of a wider move to make immigration procedures more digital and easier for travelers to manage during their stay.

Thailand Moves Toward a More Digital Immigration Experience

Developed by Thailand’s Immigration Bureau, THIM is designed to bring various immigration and travel-related services together on a single digital platform. Launched on August 1, 2026, the application currently supports the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC), allowing foreign visitors to submit their arrival information electronically. The platform also features Explore Thailand, which provides travel information and access to promotional benefits offered by participating businesses.

Planned additions include online visa extensions, 90-day reporting, appointment and queue booking, certificates of stay, and Visa on Arrival services at authorized checkpoints. These functions are intended to broaden the range of immigration procedures that visitors can manage through the application.

Although these services are planned for future integration, they could make longer stays in Thailand easier to manage. Eligible visitors may eventually be able to complete more immigration procedures digitally rather than visiting an immigration office in person.

This could be particularly useful for travelers planning extended holidays, multi-destination itineraries, or longer private-villa stays in Thailand. As more services are added, THIM is expected to become a more practical part of navigating a longer stay in the country.
